On Sunday 28th September 2025, Halesowen took on Bloxwich at Druids Heath GC in the final of the West Midlands League for the Robert’s Levine Trophy - a repeat of the 2021 League final where Halesowen came out on top.

The Team, captained by Mike Willetts, met for a hearty breakfast and to discuss tactics for the day. Format was match play Betterball across 4 pairs from each club.

First out for HGC were Sam Jones and Matt Colwell, followed by Gareth Jones and Jim Randle. Richard Colwell and Chris Welsh played in the third group with James Taylor and Phil Priest playing in the final group.

A very close match ensued with 3 of the 4 games being level or 1up either way after 9 holes. As the pressure built in the second half, Bloxwich put their noses in front getting the ascendancy in 3 of the matches after 14 holes-could history still repeat itself?

First match to finish was match 3 with Bloxwich coming out on top on the 15th hole. In match 4, Halesowen were seemingly in control maintaining a 2 up lead thru 15 holes. At the same time, the first match was going up the last hole All Square and Halesowen were 2 down with 2 holes to play in match 2 - looked like a Bloxwich overall win - but within 20 very tense minutes Jones&Colwell win the 18th to gain a crucial point, Jones and Randle win 17th&18th for a brilliant halve - everyone now down at the 17th hole awaiting group 4.

Now dormie 2up, Taylor and Priest both find the middle of the fairway with their drives - then find the green with second shots - the Bloxwich pair collapse and lose the hole - Halesowen become CHAMPIONS once more winning by 2.5:1.5

League Chairman, Ormond Lewis invites each Captain to introduce their players to the gathered crowd and present the individual trophies. Finally, the Roberts Levine Trophy is presented to a very proud Captain to retain for 12 months.

Mike Willetts thanked his players for delivering the win in a tight and competitive match played in a super spirit by both teams - unlike what was going on in New York with the Ryder Cup!

All participants from the HGC squad can be very proud of themselves for the part they have played in this success, however large or small!

Players participating in 2025 in addition to finalists:
Andy Allen, Shaun Coles, Mike Daniels, Ben Hackett, Mark Hilliard, Mark Stanley, Paul Tudor, Andy Wells, Mike Willetts

Big thank you to those members who came to support the team and Mr President and Past President for their support as well.

Halesowen will play host to the 2026 Final of the trophy on 27th September next year.
